The research aims to clarify the biosynthesis of complex mono- and sesquiterpenoids in bryophytes, offering ecological insights and valuable chemicals for industries like perfumes and drugs. It will also establish a biological production platform for these compounds. The target molecules include volatile mono- and sesquiterpenes, such as tamariscol from Frullania tamarisci, and highly hydroxylated sesquiterpenes with significant pharmacological properties like anti-cancer and antimicrobial effects. Biochemical discoveries will facilitate future biotechnological production of these compounds.
